Since our opening in October 2003, the D’Avignon Digestive Health Centre has specialized in colon hydrotherapy and nutritional counseling. Given the enormous amount of information available on these and other holistic healing modalities, we take seriously our responsibility to educate and inform our clients with current, reliable and practical information for achieving optimal health and vitality.

Nutritional counseling goes far beyond meal planning and calorie-counting; it provides a means to assess physiological weaknesses which cause signs or symptoms of ill health (and ultimately, of disease), while also providing a means to correct these imbalances by eating clean, whole foods. Understanding your body’s specific nutritional requirements, and learning how to meet those requirements, can bring a sense of empowerment which helps sustain the motivation to make better food choices.

Of all the complimentary health modalities, colon hydrotherapy is likely to be the most misunderstood. Given that colon hydrotherapy deals with a body function that many of us find uncomfortable to discuss, this is not surprising. The vast majority of its detractors, however, have no direct experience with colon hydrotherapy, while its strongest proponents are those who can personally attest to its safety and effectiveness.

As the Centre evolves, it is my hope to continue to strive to meet the needs of our clients as both educators and service providers. Each one of our Holistic Nutritionists (RNCP)/Colon Therapists brings a strong commitment to helping others that is matched by their considerable knowledge and skill. Let me introduce you to…

Photo of Heidi Horowitz, a Live Cell AnalystHeidi Horowitz
CNP, RNCP, Live Cell Analyst

Having been interested in food and nutrition since childhood, Heidi transformed her interest into a career in holistic wellness that spans more than 15 years. An Honors graduate of the Institute of Holistic Nutrition, Heidi is a Certified Nutritionist as well as a Live Cell Analyst.

Whereas it is commonly accepted that diet impacts on our health and well-being, there is a general lack of understanding as to how foods react in our bodies to reveal a state of health versus a state of illness. Heidi focuses on educating her clients about how specific diets have specific beneficial effects (or negative consequences). She uses Live Cell Microscopy as a tool to illustrate unseen, and oftentimes unfelt, activity within the body which can compromise the body’s ability to function optimally, and which in time can lead to symptoms, and ultimately, to disease.

In addition to working at the D'Avignon Digestive Health Centre as a Live Cell Analyst, Heidi runs a private practice as a Nutritional Consultant.

BSc, CNP, RhA, Colon Therapist

Marlena’s passion for health and healing led her to pursue an extensive education in a number of different yet related areas. She earned a Bachelor of Science with a major in Kinesiology from Brock University in 2004. Following the completion of her undergraduate degree, Marlena worked in rehabilitation sciences in a first-class therapy clinic in Mississauga. Developing programs for healing led her to certify as a personal trainer.

In search of a more holistic sensibility, Marlena furthered her education at the Institute of Holistic Nutrition, graduating as a Certified Nutritional Practitioner (CNP). Upon graduation, Marlena trained as a Colon Therapist at the D’Avignon Digestive Health Centre, and subsequently joined the staff. Most recently, Marlena attended the Institute of Natural Health Technologies, earning the designation of Registered Holistic Allergist (RhA). Marlena’s qualifications as a CNP, Colon Therapist and RhA make her uniquely qualified to help her clients address a wide range of food and digestion-related issues and conditions.

As an adjunct to her practice, Marlena is exploring the potential healing benefits of vibrational healing and energy medicine by pursuing studies in Reiki, Tong Ren and guided meditation.

Marlena is a dynamic and resourceful health practitioner who is committed to helping her clients affect positive change on a physical, emotional and spiritual level.

CNP, Colon Therapist

After her son was born in 2002, Marnie signed on with a personal trainer to return to her previous level of fitness and lose the excess pregnancy weight. While she already understood the importance of regular physical activity, Marnie began to learn about nutrition from her trainer. As time progressed, she became more knowledgeable about what constitutes healthy eating and how poor food choices can lead to poor health. Marnie’s trainer introduced her to the concepts of whole foods, clean eating, and holistic wellness. Motivated to learn more, Marnie enrolled at the Institute of Holistic Nutrition, graduating with honours as a Certified Nutritional Practitioner in 2007.

Marnie is focused on sharing her healthy lifestyle knowledge to help others make informed choices regarding their health and well-being. Her goal is to assist her clients in gaining insight and acquiring skills necessary to achieve lasting health and vitality.

RHN, Colon Therapist

After having worked for 10 years as a Youth Counselor, Natasha left social services to pursue studies in nutrition, her long-time passion. Intent on turning her passion into a career, Natasha began her journey at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition, from which she graduated as a Registered Holistic Nutritionist.

Natasha wasted no time putting her credentials to use, starting a private practice as well as working at a gym and health food store. She began to notice that regardless of the issue presented by her clients, improving their digestion was a first step towards success in meeting their initial health goal. This realization prompted Natasha’s interest in the D’Avignon Digestive Health Centre, where she has worked since 2006.

As a mother, Nutritionist and Colon Therapist, Natasha believes strongly in preventative approaches- nutrition being key among them- to restoring and maintaining good health. To this end, Natasha brings to her work a commitment to serve, an innate wisdom and sound knowledge of nutrition as she helps her clients achieve better digestive health for better overall health.
